Most B4B entities do not operate their own ministries directly. They “stick to business,” the businesses they know well, and channel their giving to outside organizations they have come to know and trust.
Bethesda did this for its first three decades of life. Then in 1990, it merged with the highly respected ministry called Mission of Mercy, moving its U.S. offices from Tacoma to Colorado Springs. Today Mission of Mercy operates as a division within Bethesda Ministries, with a significant amount of the administrative and promotional costs being borne by earnings from the other related companies. Thus, more of the general public’s gifts for child sponsorships and special projects can go to the programs abroad. While this is perhaps an unusual arrangement (a ministry operated by a business), it works well in this particular instance.
